Job in Houston

Well I had an interview with West Texas Memory Systems out of Houston yesterday. And have been offered a job with them. I am planning on taking it. It would have to be something pretty drastic to change my mind. I think I have recieved one of the best offers an entry-level EE/CS major can get. So I am very excited about it. I’m going to be flying down to Houston to check out the company on the 22nd of this month. The company is rather small, about 30 engineers. But it has been around since 1978 so it’s not like it’s a high-risk startup company. One of the interviewers was the founder and CEO of the company. I was impressed by him, and we seemed to get along really well. So wish me luck with the career I’ll be starting in Houston :)

Automake

Just yesterday while I was working on a project I discovered the joys of autoconf/automake. I never realized exactly how the ./configure andand make worked. I tried looking at the configure script before I never understood how everybody could create such a complicated script even for simple programs. They all seemed to do about the same thing, and I just assumed that it was created by an ide or something that I didn’t have. Anyway now that I know how to use it I really enjoy it. It makes making makefiles much easier. I’ll have to teach Chris how to use them. He’s created simple scripts to create Makefiles before. Maybe we can put it into the game we are supposed to work on. (if he ever gets his subversion server running) I’m going to have to email him and get back in touch. Anyway I guess I’m going to get back to my project. Talk to you later.

No more shadows

Yesterday I respecced my priest to holy/discipline. I went on a 5-man Scholomance run and we faired pretty well. I went with a warrior, pally, warlock, and rogue. I leveled to 58 in the instance too :) just 2 more levels to 60 now. I’m really gonna miss some of my shadow abilities though. Mages will be a lot harder to beat without my silence ability now. I’ll just have to figure out a good pvp strategy to go with this new spec. So I’ll probably be dueling in front of Ironforge until I can figure out some decent strategies. I don’t know if you got any of that, but if you play World of Warcraft you’ll understand well enough :p

Psychology

I haven’t been doing my online psychology class like I’m supposed to. I’ve gotten pretty far behind. Thankfully I’ll be able to make up the last two weeks because they were having problems with the website. Now I just need to sit down and make sure I spend time working on it. All of my time lately has been spent on project lab or world of warcraft. That means I also need to pick up the ball on feedback and statics :/ Anyway, I think I’ll head home now, I doubt I’ll have anytime to play tonight :( It’s all going to be schoolwork.

Maybe I should start sleeping polyphasically again. It hasn’t helped me very much by reverting to typical human sleeping habits. Maybe I’ll start over again during thanksgiving break.

More corrections

Alright I’ve made the necessary corrections to my blog code. The problem is recently whenever I receive the timestamp entry from the mysql database it is now returned with punctuation. e.g. 2005-04-21 21:24:43 used to be 20050421212443. I don’t know what happened to make it return the timestamp differently. So I have strip the spaces, dashes, and colons from the timestamp now to make it work properly. I had to change that for the main entries awhile back, but I forgot to change it in a few other places, i.e. my rss feed, and the search function. It should be up and running like it’s supposed to now. Thanks for pointing it out David.

Fixed blog

I just made some quick fixes to my blog. I realized that everybody’s email was coming up as noemail. I guess I made a mistake when I was going through the code and I left a slash in the form field. I also fixed A problem that caused the timestamp to stop working. The only thing I can figure is that there was a change to the server that made the timestamp value return in a different format than it had before. Anyway it should be fixed now.

Programming Team

I need to try to get a programming team together quickly. Our usual sponsor is in Missouri this year so I’ll have to find another faculty member willing to do it. First I need to make sure I can get a team together though. I don’t know how many people have graduated and whatnot. So maybe I should hang out in the CS computer lab more often. The bad thing is, I’m not really much of leader, I would rather fade into the background where nobody notices me. Oh well. If I want this to happen I guess I’ll just have to step up and take more responsibility than I would like :P

Tired

I am very tired right now. I forgot how hard it was to switch back to normal. It’s strange, it doesn’t matter how much sleep I get, I still feel like I need naps. I just can’t make up my mind, about how I want to sleep. This morning I was sure I wanted to start sleeping normally. Oh well, I be like a girl and change my mind. I just don’t feel like going through deprogramming again. I guess it’s back to the earplug strategy of daytime sleeping. Anyway, I’m about to crash. Maybe one of the girls can make sure I wake up in the morning. I need to get their schedules posted so I can do the same for them, when I wake up on time.

rss feeds everywhere

So here I was feeling all 1337 because I finally added an rss feed to my site. Turns out everybody else already had one. That is everybody except David (at least as far as I know). How sad. Oh well, at least I wrote everything here from scratch! BWAHAHAHA! What’s that? What do you mean you don’t care?? Oh well, at least I have more satisfaction having written it myself. I’ve added my friend’s feeds to my reader so I can keep tabs on you :P . Speaking of which I should probably update my links for everybody who has mysteriously fallen in love with myspace.com. I even had somebody on WoW ask me if I had a myspace account! What’s so great about the site?! What do they have that I don’t? So what if you can search for a person and find them. Do a search for “Coy Barnes” in nearly any search engine will have a link to this site (and several others that refer to me). My name is more unique than most, so I have a harder time hiding my name in millions of entries. On google out of 67 results, 44 refer to me. Anybody who wants to find me, can.

SOE

Well the matrix online has recently been sold to Sony. So now I have to try and find my box again to register with sony’s sight. In the meantime, I haven’t been able to play the game like I’ve wanted to.

Well somebody went around the trailer park and toilet papered, LCU students houses and cars. They only got Jacey’s jeep, and didn’t touch anything else here. Jacey is not happy now. She got woke up at 2 in the morning to see her jeep completely covered in junk. I can’t believe how immature people can be. I guess we should have picked some place that had security, because there’s a bunch of 5 year old college students who are out past their bedtime.

I wonder if any of my other friends have started phasing again. I’ll have to email them and find out. For some reason I doubt it.
